Ethnic Studies (Period 1) Assignments

Please watch the video at the link below, take notes, complete the viewing guide, bring your notes to class with you on WEDNESDAY, and be prepared to discuss this.

 

Your Joy Luck essay will need to address your chosen prompt. 

Your response needs to include a minimum of five paragraphs. Each paragraph must include at least one example from the novel, while addressing your personal experience. 

Your completed assignment must include the following:

- Final Draft: can be written in black or blue ink, or it can be typed (double space, 12-font, Times New Roman)

- Two Peer Reviews: you will have two class mates proof read your first draft and, using the rubric given to you earlier this week, make note on what points you addressed well and areas for improvement

- First Draft: this is the work-in-progress and SHOULD NOT, under any circumstances, be the same as what you are turning in as your final... YOU MUST SHOW THAT YOU MADE THE IMPROVEMENTS SUGGESTED BY YOUR CLASS MATES

- Pre-Writing: this could be an outline, a free write (rough draft), or any other form of pre-writing listed on your "Writing Process" handout.

- Brainstorming: bubble map, list, etc.

Read and annotate chapters 2 & 3 of The Joy Luck Club (this is the handout I gave you in class.) THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON THE JOY LUCK MOTHERS WHEN WE RETURN.

Please complete the graphic organizer on the back side of the handout given to you in class today. 

Please read and annotate "The Indigenous Origins of Circles..."
