The Gay/Straight Student Allience is participating in the National Day of silence on Friday, April 18th. The day of Silence is a student-led day of action, where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender students and their supporters take a day-long vow of silence in recognition and protest of the discrimination and harassment experienced by LGBT people. According to the gay, lesbian, and Straight Education Networks 2003 National School Climate Survey, 4 out of 5 LGBT students report verbal, sexual, or physical harassment at school and more then 30% report missing at least one day of school in the past month out of fear for their personal safety.

Students may sign-up to participate in the Day of Silence on the morning of April !8th at the front entrance of school. A sign-up booth will be set up. Students who participate in The Day of Silence will be given "speaking Cards" that explain to others the reason for their silence.
