Memoir
The beginning of my senior year began with the end of my 11th grade summer work; our beginning as city track champions- city football champions and successful completion of all class work. Working with down syndrome children as backdrop to the coming senior varsity season proved an invaluable experience that life is a contact sport; except it is not physical but more mental and spiritual. Much moreso than I knew then.
Joining the AAU record book as a national record holder in sprint relays for seventeen year olds was a special way to signal to the best of the best that we were calling out all comers; we were ready come spring 1977. A sweet varsity football season coupled w/ the city track title, w/ an undefeated relay squad was so special, especially in closing of my athletic HS endeavors w/ scholastic honors. Culiminating in our class graduation at the famed Greek Theater on a beautful June afternoon.
Never knowing that two underclasswomen would vie for my attention over the succeeding thirty two years would become an interesting little twist of fate; a great period of growth for Black People in general. The best of times. shalom.
