Lesson 2.4: Audit Reporting & Conservation Action Planning

In order to foster a school-wide commitment to sustainability, you will complete your draft energy audit section of your ZNE Proposal and implement your Conservation Action Plan to ensure a consistent and deliberate approach to resource conservation. Beyond its positive impacts on the environment, reducing resource use saves money, creates a healthier learning environment, and provides tools for experiential education. Whether you have a school green team, an inspired classroom, or even an individual sustainability champion, this lesson will help these change-makers to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact through environmental education, involvement of multiple campus stakeholders, event programming, and resource reduction project implementation.

New to CTFs?

CTFs, short for Capture the Flags, are a type of Computer Security competition where you hack, decrypt, reverse, and do whatever it takes to solve increasingly challenging security puzzles!

Sign up in a team of 1–5 competitors. There will then be a list of ‘problems’ for you to solve.

On solving a problem, you should end up with a string as an answer called a ‘flag’ (hence the term ‘Capture the Flag’). You can submit this flag using the text box next to the problem description for points and fun!

Arise, go forth, and conquer!

Lesson 2.2: Auditing Lighting

Lighting accounts for up to 10% of electrical energy consumption for businesses and commercial buildings and 7% of all electricity consumed in the United States. In this lesson, we investigate lighting to identify measures and retrofits that can lead to significant energy savings. Through hands-on assignments, students will conduct a lighting analysis and calculate energy savings based on their recommendations.
