The Portfolio Defense

The Portfolio Defense program began at Fremont in the 2014-2015 academic year. The Defense is a presentation of learning where students explain and defend their body of work (the portfolio) in relation to the school's student learner outcomes. The ultimate goal of the presentation is to prove (or defend) their readiness to graduate through artifacts or projects that they have completed during their high school career.

The sample defense below was conducted in the spring of 2019 by Uziel Arana, a student in the School of Global Media Arts (SGMA). Uziel used his internship with LADWP, his participation on the debate team, and a class project/presentation to show his readiness to move on to the next phase of his life: college and a career.
