Alright good afternoon everyone assuming you can all see my screen again I turn my camera off just because it's a little distracting from me so today I'm going to just do a little short presentation about the clever portal that you can use with your students also we're going to look at the sink as well go into my. 3 here cuz it's the first class and you click on in your classes summer portal right here on the left side of the screen so you can click courses and then scroll down and so you see the clever portal if you put that just one time you will have your own clever portal that will open up on your students will also be able to open it up I have noticed that sometimes the students on their Chromebooks they're not allowed is blocked so if that happens to be the case they can just go ahead and go into Google and write in clever LAUSD and LAUSD clever login is right here so they can go in either way students are asked to join a group or to sign in you really want your students to sign in with my mail. Lausd.net if they join the group that's going to ask them for a code and that code is identifiable just per class so you really just want to have them log into their my mail so when they join so when you go into the clever portal you will have your own page and you can add your own apps as you can see on my screen I have added nocella I have added zinc reading Labs I have added the quill. actively learn here's our springboard textbook for English and Common Sense education so today we're going to CIA what kind of apps that would be related to your subject so obviously I teach English and we have our springboard book here so I'll click on that and as you can see it brings you directly to the springboard book what's your classes are located up here so if you you can assign your textbook to all your classes and give you an idea what it looks like for send text book so I'm on springboard you can see you can view your Eve and if you go ahead and click on that couple seconds for it to load you will click your table of contents here the table of contents are the standards for the activities so right now we're working on activity 2.7 the standards are here you can see exactly the reading the writing speaking listening and language standards you can also search inside the table of contents you can go back and forth this is the first one the introduction and you can go through all the units and your embedded assess for sure but again I'm working on activity 2.7 so since I'm working on activity 2.7 right now what are we doing today and the four questions that are always asked are here what are we going to be sunny today and then add examine the narrative elements of a graphic novel how to relate these aspects of perspectives to literature and creative graphic panel with dialogue you scroll down students are able to see what the purposes for reading I'll tell you a little bit about the author here but if you scroll down since we're going to be working on a graphic novel you can see that teachers textbook will give you the answer chicken should be responding before we read I was so the students that there is an auto play here and it's like a little audiobook for them and in case they need to go back or maybe give me some doing the digital digital learning really listen to and you can play here so they can listen to it over and over after school it's exactly what you need to do there's a readers writers notebook it asked them a specific question so for this question is what is the purpose of the graphic novel out of the word inform out of the graphic novel relate to the purpose as respond spots began another question and they can respond and number three and so on and so forth and unfortunately right now the springboard is not connected to schoology so if when you do the degrading you you will need are there any questions so far misses I don't have a question is there an access code no you just have to sign in here to your clever portal and your students will sign in with their LAUSD email if that's the best way to go about it so I'm going to go ahead and takes a second to load and again the table of contents is up here so I'm going to go back to will say unit one in the very beginning culture and communication so this is the last unit that we worked on Sarah progress reports appear for click the unit assessment reports activity quizzes that students have done there are assessments from a spine your class rosters are in here so if you play with the clever portal it's it's wonderful to you can see all your students in like and you can assign specific work to them so let me show you how to assign Park go back to the ebook and I will go next preview in the unit are you students can log in here as you can see that I have highlighted text specific text for the students and what they're going to do saw you do it you can just go out and highlight it and it will give you different colors of highlighting so maybe if you want to annotate the text you you know maybe you're working on some gramatik. Shows you cannot make them highlight those specific structures and pink and then if you do verbs they could be in blue or adjective agreement things like that also share it to your Google classroom I don't use Google Classroom so I don't really know anything about it you can add sticky notes and your eraser and also if you highlight or if you annotate text the students can follow up your annotations online spell sorry star unit that we worked on was culture recently and I'm very curious to look at. 6 real quick Eminem go to another agency and I love you. Eat books with those students and again preview in the unit is the very first unit and again you can see that I highlighted specific text for these students and within the questions where the students were answer I gave them a minimum requirement so that what is cultural identity I told them they have to write me two sentences so I can question the have to write me three sentences so on and so forth so you can click in there and the kids can see on your screen what activities they have to do and what's the minimum requirement for are there any questions so far okay so if I were you I would have your kids like sign into this and starts to play around with it a little bit and being able to use the ebook and making sure that everybody can log-in definitely don't join a group you want them to login so if you look here in the center of my screen at the bottom there's here's the zinc so you're going to click the bank access and we have a reading lab here to teach history or English or arts or anything like that there is specific articles that they can read its levels one through seven so level four is obviously lower than the level seven level seven you do have to sign up for it and you can assign right here so you can click new or you can go ahead and sign and it'll give you these different articles so at the moment it looks just like find news articles to your different classes it'll tell you that it's just an article or if it's a close reading exercise or specific vocabulary that students can access if you clicked down here there's 689 articles and close reading exercises there's 29 close reading exercises and there's like a hundred different types of Larry quizzes and and assignments for them so if you look at the Articles will just go ahead and look at some of these articles here so if you want to look at the top screen whatever your teaching you might want to use this as a warm-up it's Citgo on here so you can just technology will just go ahead and click technology and see what they have out there they have reviews things that have happened throughout the world not just here in Los Angeles there's the science-based psychology pop culture is pretty popular meaning of life and you can uncooked I'm here United States your teaching science maybe you want to use a scientific article play with all of these different types of themes you have your difficulty levels here and you can see that it's a 127 again into steam easy-to-follow articles you might want to use this we can go for specific reading standards we can look at what are we supposed to be learning today are we going to be doing the inferences or we look not like the big picture tone of point of view you can also give them a amount of time and lock it if you'd like I tend to not do that so they read and read there's different topics so if you do want some springboard curriculum support this one is fabulous just did the ad obviously you know middle school but some of our students need to reread these things and these types of things seems different types of topics books anti you we'll say we're just going to assign why we procrastinate and see the article in the activities and you can see here that it's a level 6 difficulty there's only three questions and these are the skill of the quiz skills and Friends developing ideas relationships nonfiction and activities seems like a sign and you can just do them individually if you like or if you want the entire class today you click here entire class and classes and to the names and say I want just my fifth. I'm going to and I'm going to make it homework assignment I usually make it as a wormer I get them ready for the actual class you can also sign article popular games that go with it and you can also assign the writing prompt and against those she's at its new right here and we're going to have the same settings for all students right now if you have students with IEPs you I want to do different settings for different students your real liners you can enable the Spanish support I don't do the timer just because it is what right now with distance learning but I do to the timer when we're in class I don't force them to restart you can if you like and then you sign I know you can see that all of my students will be taking this article little quiz and then do a 10 word vocab set the 10 word vocabs that does take a little bit longer so if you don't want to use is the warm-up you might just want to do the article if you go to where the assignments are you can see all of your assignments you can manage your classes there specific vocabulary activities articles close to reading Mason placement test and they really do enjoy their readings friends and these are done you can see that it's just a basic comprehensive a light spread for them a whole six week one and they have a three week one tend to choose the three week one they get to take a placement test first and then they do three weeks of training and the following is this tweet of the three close reading exercises three article quizzes and 3 vocabulary deck and the first of all because they learn how to use the and second of all because they like to challenge so you can assign them and then you can have them do this for for homework or maybe on the weekends if you do the 6 week 1 all the time and the students tend to get a little bit tired of it so I would start out with like the comprehensive one and then go into the three weeks Prince you click continue you can start it and then you do a placement level just go and do one through seven because we do have high schoolers and it said the most students have completed a placement test in the last 3 weeks all of the ingredients friends kick off with a placement test to establish that Baseline for them and then you continue and I will do the entire class and again. And then you can assign it to your students things have been assigned to them I usually try to assign one or two or even three different options for them so if they don't feel like they have to continually let me just do one thing if they want to move around 8 keeps their attention a little longer hears the placement test you can see that I am assigned placement test on September 15th for all the classes and you can see the results your read the results will pop up in your in your email are there any questions about this one so far so I'm going to give you guys an option right how to have a look and see if you can even Access Link right now so let me show you again so you go into your your regular class so I will let you guys go into your regular schoology and then I want you to pick class that you like I want you to scroll down to the clever portal clever portal come again if you if it doesn't say that it's launched to just go into LAUSD clever portal you can see my students have done work we can message each other here on the left side I don't know why it has a red X go get it if you go into the library at the top it shows you all the different type they have so going to clever library and maybe you have to do you want to maybe you teach me so you can give them extra math quill.org has for writing is 8 pages here's the nearpod that just love and then you just click it and I'm going to put it on my page and I'm going to add the link so when I look at my home room I will see nearpod right here again I have schoology Second Step the Discovery education is really fun you can click on that I add just so kids can read articles in all of these different subjects I have to keep saying I agree but I do cast of springboard book if you can scroll down here these are all the district apps some of these are for real learners Cavallari and BrainPOP and second step is really good for your learner's we also have our Britannica online for research Associated Press also research and then also you can give students badges for completing certain work and then they will get those badges in their email so if you click on how to print a badge all the information is here for you very simple so right now I want you guys to go ahead and click into springboard if you have a springboard and if you have a springboard for your subjects I want you to let go ahead and log in to zinc for those of you who don't have springboard I would like for you to click go into zinc learning Labs.
