okay so this is the presentation on IXL learning so why use it what does it have well it has not just only math in English but it also has social studies science and Spanish skills going from K through 12 so regardless of where your students actually are there are skills there for them to practice and cancel it that they might have there is a diagnostic that they have in mass and English they have skills that are correlated to state standards are common core standards and several textbooks most of the textbooks only go up middle school right now but they're still adding more textbooks every month and then students can work on skills from any level so whatever level they need to work on to fill their gaps they can work on that that level regardless of what grades are in so what is the diagnostic do it assesses where students are in math and English students can take bowls or they could select one so when I directed my students I had them just pick language arts in the first time diagnosing it takes about 50 to 60 Minutes for them to pinpoint their skill level for ELA does the does the reading level first and a lot of times my students would stop there but it wasn't finished diagnosing their overall Ela level she got to encourage them to keep going and then once they do this diagnostic they want do students to go back into the diagnostic area 10 to 15 minutes every week to keep the scores current and then and it's going to adapt to the responses of Peter adaptive test and so if they get the question right the questions will get harder if they get it wrong it all gets simpler and it's really going to try to pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses so what does there's a learning tap and this is where students will get recommendations from iexcel about possible learning skills that they could work on based on the results from the diagnostic also provides them student choice that usually gives them a choice of a whole bunch of different skills that they could choose from to start and then teachers are also able to recommend specific specific skills to your individual classes Civic students or to all your students and the goal for the smart score for any skill is to be 80 which is proficient the smarts to the smart score still goes from 0 to but it is not a percentage they want to make that very clear it is not a percentage because the number is based on the difficulty of the question and it always changes and so when students are first practicing a skill they want it want you to have them shoot for 80% and then when they hit us I mean 80 when they hit a smart score of 90 then the AL enter this challenge area so then it's going to see if they could score a hundred and then it'll give him a little metal showing that they mastered that skill so it's really encouraging and then they turn certificates as well so this is the one that I love there's also a chance for Life classroom. So if you want your students to work on this in class during class time you can click on this tab and you can see every student who's logged in is going to have a child and it's going to tell you what skills are working on with their smart score is how many questions they've answered and then if they're having trouble it's going to highlight their their box and red or orange and you can actually click on it see what they're struggling with you can send him a message through I excelled to kind of help them pass. action so this is really what's great about when you're using it in your classroom with your students at the same time then there's also for teachers there's an analytics Tab and so this is going to be probably your most used space on I excel because this is going to how this is going to be where you can see how students are doing on a specific skill on an individual or how all your classes are doing if you've assigned him a specific skill as well then yesterday I watched all 42 of their instructional videos that they have for us they're only about two to three minutes and really walks you through every feature that you could possibly want and I'll show you where those are as well and get to the website okay so I know you're like what what is it looks like okay let me get there now so why are you not going to stop share and share again oh my God I just had my question and now I can't articulate it is this is this something that the kids need to sign up for separately or is it available to us through like two  just through schoology where we can see schoology that you as the teacher would add to classes and then students can access through their awesome so nothing more for them to remember right cuz I have your classes have already been pre-populated It's Already Done wonderful thank you so so this is showing I picked one class this is my lower class when I pick my hire I guess and say this is showing the over overall view so these are where my students who finished their overall Ela levels and then this is their Lexile level their reading levels and then it shows me per student is and then I could even break it down by their reading strategies and then formed groups I mean my groups have one or two people because this is a smaller class and then it gets wrecked patience for them and these are clickable links to go to the skills so this is really great so that's just a diagnostic fart just over here on the far right that's the live classroom you're not going to see much cuz I don't think any students are logged in right now working on it but you can see this is what your you'll have how many students are working how many students are idle so if they have an answer to question in a while they might be stuck or they might be off task these are the students that might need help how many different skills are being practiced and how many questions I answered in the last hour right so that's really helpful if you are using it with your students when they're they're the really cool part here is this learning town so I have already on my preferences on my settings this could be grade level but I wanted to take the grade level off because a lot of my students are low so underneath my name here if you go into violin settings it'll you can change how your name is displayed I tell it I only have English language arts and then here you can hide the grade levels so that don't get embarrassed that it's a third-grade level it just says level see you know there's Spanish language support you can also have audit of you support and then you can also hide the timer so it doesn't give them that stretch so that's so for mine it doesn't have grade levels but it goes from pre-k to 12 then you can also search by topics which is also really cool so if there's a topic that I'm teaching or that I want them to work on especially my ELD students I did some grammar ones so you can just click on grammar and then. in a progression right so this is the basic skill and then it moves up to this and this and this so wherever your students might be you can have them wherever they are if there's one that you want to assign if you just hover over the star right here then you can either start all your students particular class or you can go in and just start at 4 killer students and I'm going to show you kind of where they where they go so that is really awesome and then they also have the skill plans so if for instance you just wanted to tie it in with what you were currently teaching we have the common core standards they have these different textbooks that they have already started aligning their working on and then they also have act the PSAT to sat this map want to so they also have test prep for them as well. I know where I'm at so I could just I teach 11th grade so I could just click on 11th grade language arts standards see what I what I'm focusing on and what I want to do here are all the standards with skills and look this this one is when they want to see use if you hover over it you'll get a preview so this is the level one and it goes up to four different levels you can click on it click on it as well and go inside for the skill and so this is kind of what the students going to see so as the answer questions it'll tell them how many questions they answered with their smartscore is the coolest thing that I just learned about in a webinar last week is Steve's little cheer skills so if I want to assign to all my students I can start it to them but then I can also get the link here and put that in schoology and it'll take them right to this skill to practice otherwise you have to kind of depend on the students to click on their recommendations page and then over here at hasn't by student so students will see this when they come to their recommend page here it has a whole bunch of math stuff here's where he can go back into the diagnostic Arena and so they get to choose if they want to do on any of these but over here are suggest from your teachers so here teachers can these are teachers that have started these particular skills that they want the student to work on so they could find him here this way or you can do that link and have them go. towards it let me show you a couple of reports as well that are really kind of cool so I'm going to go into Skills Practice because I want to show you a things that I can see once they've done it this is my overall I'll go back to that too I guess so right now it's doing all students all the skill levels in the date range defaulted to the last 30 days but I can have it do it just for the last week how did they beat what did they practice these aren't mine so I need to go back to 30 days so this is what I wanted them to practice this is the sentence of statement question command or exclamation so I can click on this particular skill and then it gives me the overview of the class that took it so I had 4% of my students mastered it 1% or still practicing 95% haven't even started how many questions they've answered the time spent how many students practice and it gives me a break down here these are the students that scored a hundred and then you can hover over it to see how long they've worked on it and then here it also tells you who's working on the different levels so if I scroll down so this it is on Level 3 you just hasn't finished yet right and this students on level to level two kind of question and then these are my students who haven't even started well all the signs but I could also filter it by class so I really did just assign that to one class and then the percentage gets a little better so these have all mastered this part stays the same cuz the same kids but now my haven't ever used as much smaller so that's really kind of exciting and fun there's also progress and growth we're going to run out of time there's so many cool fun things in here and so so just tell me how many skills my students have mastered how many skills are proficient in and then it can tell me by students where they are how many they've done I do want to make sure before we go that I show you the teacher resources because this is where I found all those 42 videos so they have implementation guides they do webinars I went to the e-learning library and so I've why I watched all these videos they're all only about 2 to 3 minutes total and it shows you all these different things that you can do with all the different tabs great so when you going I had added it from the App Center here in schoology to my courses so it's on not in speech hot speech speech I clicked too fast it'll come up on the left-hand menu underneath the picture in your class I want to see out of them on there we just click on that and I don't give us the teacher of you because some of my students at the beginning for some reason told me they didn't see that I put in the ink for the Local District South sign in for LAUSD and so it'll take them right to that and then they can sign in here is so they can be in schoology the whole time that they're working on this and so I like to go to a bigger screen cuz that's not big enough for me but here's where a lot of those resources are you can also search for top picks up here in the search bar it's just there's just so much for those in ela and math that are doing the STAAR reading test when it comes back with a focus skill you could find the focus skill in here and assign that to those students who need work on that one other thing I wanted to show you this does not mean that students don't need instruction so this is a really easy one but if students are struggle and I'm not sure how to answer a question see this learn with an example this is where it's going to go over and explain it to them with an example so that they can then go back to practice and try to get it correct right and then if I click incorrectly and submit it's going to tell me is incorrect and then it's also going to give me Annex explanation and then you can say God it when you're done and it's going to give you something similar to answer again I've no idea what these I have to listen to the words but so that's kind of how that works and then if they get it wrong it's going to go a little bit easier and then as they get it right so they might lose some of their smart score points when they get it wrong but have the opportunity to earn those back and then you earn Awards their certificates there's stuff you can earn as a class as individual students parts of ways to do to reward students for their work it's a lot of that reinforce positive reinforcement and Miss Patel yeah I would say do the diagnostic first and then what it'll do for students is when they go to recommendations this recommendations wall that comes up is going to have skills based on how they did to this particular student does English and Mass here's one of my English learner so here this is one of my students in my ELD class so here has a whole bunch and then they get to choose which one they want to work on so sometimes you can have them do independent practice and sometimes you can have them the specific skill practice you want them yes yes so when students go into the diagnostic Arena automatically defaults to diagnose both subjects math and English and unfortunately I used to have a StudentVue I don't anymore but when they go in there's a blue bar across here and over at the right hand side there's a little book with a drop down menu and that's where they can choose either math language arts or do both and so I usually just have him pick language arts for me questions cuz I got like 3 minutes left do we have any questions did I haven't answered yet how do you put the link in school okay stuff around again so let me get you a skill to learning it's the same way that you would add any link so I'm just going to go in Reading strategy here computers Tire today share skill if you use Google Classroom it's got that too but and then and materials now if I wanted to count this as an assignment and I would add the link in the assignment for this or you can the link by itself but if I want to give it a braid I'm going to add it as an assignment come on come on baby and then down here thank you you're welcome any other yes so I was playing with the tools for Science and I kind of seems like this is more like an assessment tool of skills but it doesn't really introduce them to any material correct so this is not this is not a curriculum textbook replacement so this is really just a just a cyst teachers on helping students work with specific skills awesome thank you you're welcome any other questions all right I will go how do I use it in my class so for my ELD class so I would we we did at nearpod seeing where they needed to create a scent put two sentences together and they really struggled with with Dad so I assign them a conjunction skill to have them practice. it was just kind of things I was seeing in what we were already trying to do so that I could go back and teach those and then the next step for me is to look at that the Renaissance reports from the Star reading that they just did and find Focus skills and assigned those than two groups of students to work on that's how I would use it thank you you're welcome all right Miss cash
