hi my name is Keisha Ray and I'm here to provide you guidance encouragement on your journey to remote learning I want to thank you for making this transition in the circumstances that you are all and today you yourselves are going through a challenging time and hearing to social distancing self activation request and our community is not the same as it was one month ago so thank you for your supporting your students during this incredible time in your own lives I also know that you probably left your classroom not and you may have in your house in order to plan and develop lessons I want to assure you that you are not alone millions of teachers around the world in a similar circumstance and they too have taken the lead to support their Learners that's what we was Educators isn't it we support we take care of our kids and wants to make sure you're taken care of they want to make sure you have the necessary to support and not only have the school's you need to be successful resources are continuing to be developed and made available to you everyone is working in a just-in-time mode and given the circumstances that's okay that's probably the best that any one of us can right now the speaking of Justin time I created a Playbook recently that you may find helpful as you embark on this journey The Playbook is focused on promoting and I would like to share with you talk to you through some of the key components of the Playbook so shiny if you will look at my screen and display book put out by Tech and learning is really dedicated to getting started with remote learning a rapid fire situation like we're finding ourselves then right now getting started with remote learning I am you by the way I know this text is very small but you have dis as a PDF in your folder so if you want to go ahead I'll give you a few minutes you can open it and just going to follow along with me as I go over 70 components of the book okay hopefully you had a chance to find that resource and have it open so I'm page four of the resource we talked about defining remote learning and learning has been something that we talked about in especially in Key Largo display book was put together to describe some structure elements that you would need to put in place to support your students kind of crisis in our country your remote learning is any time that there is a distance between you and the student we call that distance learning a remote learning and in distance learning we typically think of that making fun of Correspondence and videoconferencing the remote learning is bird that we are afraid of these energy juice to kind of level set on eating any timers online away if you connect do your students when you're not in the same place based location is remote and it's an opportunity for students and teachers to remain engaged with learning some kind of an urgent situation experiences is you have to have a structure in place in order to really be successful with your remote Learning Classroom a remote learning experience the first and foremost structure is time so you don't want students lose track of the concept of school and I know that sounds crazy but we all know how it is when kids leave for summer or winter breaks and they come back it takes a few days to come back to where we have probably been able to like there then be with error in Billings maybe be with their friends and now we need to try to get them a schedule and time is a huge element for that schedule I have been recommending to districts around the country around the world actually is you can do this in a lot of different ways you can set it up where in your schoology instance are in your money management you have activities that you want students to do starting to particular time and in your office hours are going to fall and office hours or you're going to be in real time your office hours will fall so that understand the assignment said they have been giving her back to the next thing that you want to focus on it is communication positive communication slated to their education so they're learning and so their assignment and try to get them back into a repeating that's focused on learning and knowledge and the stratosphere of Anakin fear that we might be in given the instance of this virus that mimics that were in the middle of it's also important that you have a quick turnaround and by quit Academy turn around for any kind of a sign that it's or materials that you shared expecting to get back from student you don't want to go a whole week without giving some kind of feedback are the work that are involved in so make sure that you again with that schedule with that sign you know here's what our schedule is going to be for the day and here's what you can expect super teacher for communication here's the frequency you expect to hear from me and here are the ways that I'm going to be communicating with you and you can lay that out to them at the very onset of Journey you can say I'm going to be emailing I'm going to be calling whatever Mo you want to use that whichever mode you and your principal or other teachers in your building has a side it on I would recommend you at least level setting as a school on kind of what types of communication use especially if you have a sibling and there are pictures in the school which most likely do because you want parents to kind of have an expectation of the communications that they're going to get out micro level with your classroom in macro the whole school in tigerton Minnesota with parents and the diligence of that communication overtime you also want to be aware of the fact that when you're learning assignments bakit Hindi you're going to be doing that that you want to give the feedback where those a sign that says ugly but a little bit more detail than what you have been accustomed to do waiting you mad when I was teaching even now at when I type into the university I know I'm an online teacher so I give great and depth feedback but an unreturned teacher I would let them come up to me and talk to me after class if they had any questions so since the after class time is no longer than you want to make sure if you're going to be writing assignment as much detail into the feedback some of the students kind of have an idea of why they received the gray they received the other piece of this kind of structure is technology and many of your students have been provided devices some may have their own device that you do have all levels that are on a truck management system so that is the source where all students will go to get their lessons in schoology all go there they will all receive their license there now you may you may have some extra Larry resources something like that at the links to those things be in schoology mostly because that single sign-on for the student is going to be in school if you want them to go there first and then exit out the technology and how you're going to use the technology and your expectations of them using either a conference or a schoology or anything else needs to be clear in any directions that you provide to them the next piece of the structure of remote learning is lessons design and in lessons design you do really just think about how you're constructing the lesson in and you probably have a format that if you use but again in a on Brown face to face in Bayern you said in adolescent for example up on page eight your setting of The Lesson is going to be more related to something that you're sharing in the class over in a group setting a tap versus having really articulate it in my PowerPoint presentation or you know when you're in a video that you might resent just like I'm through to you so think about that think about no I'm not there with them but I want to provide them all the contacts for the last Saturn that I can so that they know what the expectations are so I wanted call less than just nine and is a matter of fact you can click on that template and I'll send you a powerpoint and you can just use that PowerPoint template Isabella your lessons and I'm post that into Schoology what I set up is basically this mini despise the first flight is setting a lesson and it tells the student context for the lesson and you can have a video clip in the air I'm pretty sticks video through so you can produce the video she wants to settle us and you can have them go look at video watch a video you can read something you can have them do something about a wall in your house go talk to your you know Sentra how are you want to do that that goes on slide 1 at this PowerPoint presentation that I'm calling the remote Learning lesson template to are your objective so you're going to just tell them just like he would extend in your classroom and you may even have it written on a board in your class when you're going to tell them what a lesson objectives are and you're going to be explicit given an example of what you want spendable R&B and and so I have highlighted those things in desert example so you can see what I want them to know and be aware of and then the next is assessing current understanding so you want to try to figure out what they know about that particular objectives that you're trying to teach her that you can do a poll there's a lot of tools that are I bet you can do anything you don't want to do that you can just it's a self-assessment at that point you can do stop music this is going to be a point of growth for everybody in the entire School District so but then do a self-assessment on what they now and then that's when you're going to essentially doing it when I always recommend to Waze watch read do so again this is on that template so you might have watched something so go to YouTube there are a lot of other resources that have a lot of wonderful videos for you to access a discovery you have a lot of resource links that are not going to go to the list but take a video for them to watch this relating to your left and if they want that less than the next thing to do is read something a video to watch and you are being provided some resources to read and then there's a do component so you're in component for what we're talking about Creed ad injective so the next slide is assessing the understanding so you're going to be sorry it's a signing an activity so you're going to set the lesson ejected you're going to understand you're going to interview and then a reading activity and then you're going to sign an application activity do activity maybe list the components of a lesson design for about learning listed but the assign application activity can be a lesson using the lesson that template is available by clicking on that link and you can download that template and you can start developing all of your lesson right there so recap for remote learning you have to think about time you have to think about the structure of time your availability and how you're going to be available to your female with your students and the frequency of that communication you want to make sure everybody Iran what that's going to look like the technology that you're getting used to be aware of all the tools that you use and as you go through this process you may want to learn and once again your District set up a notch job at making that kind of training up. And in final design in the reason I have bad in here is just so it's easy you download that template and you fill out the and that can be your lesson and you have to do that you can do you know you can do what you want to do to develop your license but if you need something lessons in that school is here for you in this in this booklet let's look at some other pieces of tools that you have available to you I have developed sample letters to parents this one actually is from a school district in Illinois so that is available to you and then you're going to have variety of resources available to you to your district has the resources that they that they pay too if you want you can also say with open concept concept there is a page on the district website that lists all of the free resources that are available and fraction and that resources available to you and then of course all the content that your school has purchased licenses for Israel to you so just so you know I did kind of the rules if you will for openness this is the five hours of openness and that is content that is available to you that doesn't have any kind of copyright and that's just in there as a little guy if you wanted to reach out and use some of an educational resources as you're going through this and it's just about you don't have to worry about the loan agreement here on page 18 is a resource that can talk about the different kinds of resources that you might do again in your District you have resources at the district level and at the school level and there are list of resources that are itemized you on that website that encourage you to kind of use those and and get your head around how you're going to design your content so I would advise looking at the content that's available to you looking at the free resource links that are listed on the district's website before thinking about developing land what's the weather in developing ideas of how they can get their face in your own home you need the kids are engaging with a concept that they're checking in with their own about learning with a course and that they are as they're safe and okay right so you need to be. Condo for them to reach out to you and still have another for another assault that they can connect with you sometime so that the kids can still connect and bond with one but something else they lost when school closed right and they didn't ever get to say goodbye to my nephew is 11 years old and he is still trying to figure out my friend's phone number because you know that and he doesn't know how to get in touch with some of his way that you could help him connect with what I think that would be very very helpful just try to create a sense of structure and a sense of normalcy for your kids and I think you're going to find when you do this for your kids you're going to be doing it for you and you're going to you're going to find a sense of normalcy in your routines to you're going to get an idea of what the flow of the day shift this is example of what it can look like so let me in with just saying I know this is a very challenging time for a whole lot of people but I also know that there are no better people dead professional Educators to take on the task of creating a normal speed and structure in the lives of children and I know you guys are up to the task I know that your District can provide you too unbelievable resources so that you can have the support that you need to do this work and I know that you're going to feel really good about this word when you get started in it if I can ever be of any assistance you can find me on LinkedIn and I just absolutely wish you the best you are a phenomenal group of professional educators and a phenomenal group of leaders and your kids need you and I am just so thrilled that you're going to rise to that challenge and be there for your student my heart for doing that and your next presenter is going to be a good friend of mine who is going to share some resources
